I have been using the old generation NW Teams going on three seasons now. They have held up well, even the blue and yellow dye for each opposing shoe has not faded. I just treat them once and a while to a good leather conditioner. I purchased them because they fit the best, which should be the main criteria for shoe selection.
I have been using Look pedals, so I can't offer suggestions with your cleat selection. However I have used Times in the past and I liked them. They were easy to set up and use. Alas they were out of my price range, I purchased the Looks as they were on sale.

I REALLY like the Speedplays with Sidi Genius 3's. The Speedplay cleats seem to work well with the Sidi's and you don't have the front of your foot pointing at the sky when you get off and walk. Very comfortable.

i use gaerne shoes (Mythos) and it fits both time/look/spd/spd-r. great shoes. if you have wide feet like i do, definatly look into Gaerne's

I own several makes of shoes, Time, Nike, Look and pedals Time, Dura Ace PD-7401 (Look type), and Look Carbon Pro.

Overall my opinion Time is the best shoes, comfortable and very wide for my feet, but too expensive! Time pedal too very comfortable as it has very wide base and good floating angle. Nike is good for the price (get it from Ebay).Overall Nike is OK, for comfy. Good luck.

I never tried the Shimano SPD-R. Anybody have any experince?

peace!!!
