I have a Quantum Race (2000) so I'm more aware of the various reviews than I would have been otherwise and it has been a frequently reviewed bike. What I find interesting is the wide range of subjective assessments of the bike's ride qualities. Some reviewers say it rides very stiff, beats you up. Others say thet Klein has found ways to tame the harsh ride common to aluminum bikes. Personally, I find the ride to be very pleasant, but your perception may differ.

The only thing about the bike I find objectionable is that it only has about 14 or 15 useable gears. If I'm in the small chainring, the chain rubs the big ring in the three smallest cogs. I wish Shimano made a splined bottom bracket with about a 112 or 113mm spindle. I suspect that would solve the problem.

I have a 2000 Quantum Race frame with Dura-Ace stuff on it and Rolf Pro wheels. I've put over 2000 miles on it since I got it late last year, and I absolutely love it. I ride a 58, and I weigh 155, so I don't abuse it like heavier riders would. I live in Mississippi, and a lot of the roads around here are pretty rough. When I first moved here, I couldn't believe how rough they were, but now I'm used to them (I also ride 700x20 tires). The carbon fork helps out in that area, too. The problem mentioned in the other reply about the chain rubbing I have yet to experience. I ride in the small ring and the next to last small cog when warming up, and it doesn't rub. For the money, you definitely can't go wrong! I bought my first Klein (Stage Comp R) frame from Supergo two years ago, and would have kept it if I hadn't been hit by a car on it last summer, hence the Quantum Race. Good'll definitely enjoy it if you're a sprinter or lighter rider!

That is a great price for a great bike. I have a '99 and it has been a joy to ride. I had to pay $1680 for mine. I got it last aug and have put on over 2500 trouble free miles. I also like having the only one in my area, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a trek.
Or a live cat for that matter :-) (NM)Lazy

I am 6'3", 185-190#, owned a 58cm 1997 Quantum Race/Dura Ace for three years and I adore it. I have simply quit looking for any other bike.....I don't know how much better it could get for larger riders.
