without a wheel made with wire spokes the bicycle would have never been what it is today. Until recently other desings have been used but it is the spoke wheel what has made cycling posible.

would probably have to be air filled tires, whether tubular or clincher. Ride for 20 miles on just the rims and you'll get an idea of what it's like to ride on solid rubber tires, not even remotely fun. not to mention heavy as hell to lug up the mountain. TTFN
