I'm going to do my first road race this weekend. :) It's the Frozen Flatlands race in Cheney Washington and it's something like 40 miles. I've done dozens of mt. bike races and I've put in lots of base miles plus a little training. Any tips for first-timers? Anyone else going to be there? I can't wait!

I just noticed there is a separate race forum. I'll post there and read all the threads too.

the pace varies A LOT in a road race...try to find the rhythym. Stay near the front but don't go off on any early fliers unless you think you have a good shot of staying out front. Most of these early breaks get reeled in but there have been some instances where there were sandbaggers that stayed away the whole race. If you can work with a team or at least a buddy do so...lots of strategy in a road race. Have fun!
