are there certain body types that are better suited to cycling ....i think i heard that a large amount of the successfull had long femurs....another interesting tid bit i learned was that black people have less dense bones which i assume are lighter and would be a boon to cycling..i think they have longer legs too...

Many reputable companies offer good TdF packages. If you save your nickles, you'll probably be able to save enough money to see LA's son Luke win his first Tour. Good luck!

john de, you always manage to strike a nerve.

Back in the 1970's the East Germans had a sports program based on establishing standards and criteria of the various world sports in the Olympics and developing sports specific athletes to win. They would put young aspiring athletes in each discipline, say gymnastics, running, figure skating, etc. (no bike racing Oly's back then), through tests involving blood sampling, genetic data, real physical tests, etc. and then pick out those scored the highest. These kids would be transported along with their parents to those locations where the training for that sport existed. The Corporations of east Germany were required to contribute 5% of their earnings to this National program. They got very good results but there came to be some concern regards methods involving use of drugs and banned substances, etc.

So you are indirectly asking the same type of Question. That is, does physical body characteristics relate to success achieved in the "sport" of Bicycle racing. Add in blood chemistry, aerobic and aneribic data, % body fat, muscle biopsy for fibre type, weight, etc., etc. Then build the Table and start taking apps.

Some of this data is publicly available and is used to wow your self or others as to VO2 Max, resting; max heart rate, lactate thresholds, HDL; LDL; triglyceride levels, etc., you name it. Then another Elite Athlete comes along and makes a major score in the marathon or Tour de France, and you start over.

So John de, if you could win the Tour all the sports physiologist would be knocking on your door. Give it a try; we all have. Wade Kelly; best half marathon ... 1:22:17, front of the middle of the pack. You don't even wanna know my bike race results. Wade Who? Am Senior Olympic fodder, anywho.

cheers john de,

yes that is what im askingjohn de

what im asking would be somthing these germans might have kept, except for bicycling...someone who knows trains pro cyclists or sizes pros might be able to tell me...it is a very specific sport and it would seem to me that a certain body type would more easily be able to preform well..just as the gymnasts or high jumpers are suited to there own sport..you know what im asking..

Don't know john de. The German car maker Audi is kikking butt in le Mans and their Quattro was banned from rallying because it was thought they had unfair advantage. After W.W.II, Kodak received all German Agfa's color printing technology. Einstein gave us Relativity and so German was a required language for our Physics majors back thru the 60's. Porsche, Mercedes Benz, BMW, VW, Opel, are among the best automobiles. Schneider and Carl Zeiss some of the the best optics; Hassleblad cameras. What are their secrets. So why not superior athletes? Mebee they kept a few in the pocket for Jan. Maybe you could research it.

cheers
