I just got a new frame and was wondering what kind of grease to use on the seatpost, and where to purchase it. The frame is aluminum

It really doesn't matter - whatever you can get your hands on is fine - either fork out the $ for the Finishline or some other bike specific stuff, or head down to the local auto parts shop and pick up a tub of bearing grease - whatever floats your boat.

It's more important that once or twice a year you remove, clean, and regrease the seatpost and stem than what type of grease you use. (do it more frequently if you ride in the rain alot)

Anything is better than nothing... I'd personally go to the hardware store or auto parts store for something cheap. It's good to have good stuff for bearings, etc, but there is invariably a use for cheap stuff, so have at it. Dr.D is right on there.
