Campy's 135mm bolt circle diameter (BCD) allows a minimum 39 tooth ring, while Shimano's 130mm BCD goes to 38t. The next size down is a 110mm BCD which will go down to a 34t ring. I believe Ritchey sells a 110mm BCD road double, and Ritchey, TA and Sugino have triples that would look appropriate on road bikes. Rivendell sells the Sugino (XD-500) and TA (Zephyr) cranks, but I'm not sure who sells the Ritchey double.

I don't know if Rivendell has been able to get the TA Zephyr lately. Peter Jon White has them and you can always get them from St. John Street Cycles in England, but you have to eat the shipping. I'm not sure if the Ritcheys are still made - I bought two pair when Excel was blowing them out a year or two ago, but I haven't seen them since then. Awesome cranks if you can find them. Both the Ritchey and TA are very expensive cranks if you don't find them on sale (probably never happen with TA). The Sugino that Rivendell sells is a better budget option, but only available in 170 and 175. If you want 172.5, you have to go with the TA and just run it as a double if you don't want to use the granny ring.

Yes, you can get a 50 for a Campy crank. I got mine at La Bicicletta, it's a mail order store. The brand is Miche. I don't think it's possible to fit a 37 on your regular Campy crankset.

The smallest possible ring on a newer Campy crank is 39t. TA makes 50's and 39's to fit Campy and they are 9-speed compatible. They also make a 110mm pattern crank called a Zefir--costs like a Campy Record but is even better made than Record. Rivendell, Peter White Cycles, or SJS Cycles (British.) They'll go on sale the day after Bush grows a brain.
