Found someone selling a 1996 GT Force for approx. $350 to $400. Has a triple crank, 24 speed with STI shifters. Frame is 54cm, which has seemed to be the right size for me.

Good for a first road bike? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have ridden a 1997 GT Force for 3 years, and it was my first road bike. Since it is aluminum, it does ride a little rough, but I did my first century on it. It has held up pretty well so I really have no complaints. I paid either 700 or 800 new, so 350-400 for a 1996 might be a bit high. Mine has Mavic CXP 10 rims and Shimano RSX components. There are probably other bikes and materials (steel) that I would have preferred, but it has not been a bad bike. See if you can test ride it to see how it feels to you. I would also recommend test riding as many other bikes and materials as you can. If I would have ridden steel prior to buying this bike, I would have bought steel, but that is just me, you have to do what works for you. Feel free to post a reply with any further questions.
