I'm having a hard time finding a road bike for my 7-year-old daughter; everything is a BMX lookalike. She's got that, and would like a road-type bike. When I was 8, I had a miniature 10-speed that must've had 24-inch wheels. Does anyone still make such a thing?

There was a kid on one at Solvang last week, I think that rider finished ahead of me, the whole 104.4 miles. It looked like maybe a 24".

Sorry, I didn't notice the brand, but they DO exist. I've seen other small roadbikes, ridden by kids as young as about 8, doing some profoundly long, tough rides.
I'll be watching this one....Cartman

My daughter is two. I was looking at the lbs the other day at the little bikes, not trikes. When the time comes, and if she is interested, I'd love to give her the oppurtunity. BTW, at what age do kids start to ride real bikes? She's got the plastic 4 wheel jobbie, but I'm think ing it's almost time for the real thing ( with training wheels of course)

started using a "real" two-wheeler with training wheels at 4 and a half. The training wheels were gone before he turned 5. He's now seven and just tearing up a BMX bike. Some kids built a pretty decent track in the woods across the street from our house, and it's a real joy to go down and "supervise" the younger sprockets.
They're out there...TJeanloz

Quite a few of the European manufacturers make a 24" road bike, Bianchi is the one that I'm most familiar with. The trouble is that they consider these bikes 'racing' bikes, and spec them with tubular rims and tires. As a result, they are almost never imported. I did see one at Interbike, from a Canadian company, Argon18. Where you can actually purchase such a bike, I have no idea.

you didn't say how tall your daughter is, but you might want to check out the compact cannondale in the 43cm size. with those 650c wheels it's pretty darn small.

i remember those "little bikes"! i had a 24" wheeled raleigh, w/ a lugged steel frame. wonder if they still do those for the euro market???

good luck!
