Foot pain(7 posts)

Hmmm...I've been perplexed for over a year now as to why I have such unbelieveable pain on the soles of my feet when riding. It starts pretty quick, maybe within 5 miles, and I bought Sidi Energy's thinking they would cure any type of sole flex I might have, and it made it a little better. I'm a big guy 6' 210#, and it seems that the pain of my feet is reducing the distance of my rides, vs. the pain in my lungs or legs. Not good. I switched pedals as well to Speedplay X-2's, so I have a larger cleat, but did that at the same time as switching shoes. I'm beginning to think that maybe my feet are just really wide. I have 46 size cloppers, E width, which is kinda wide, but definitely not extreme. Not quite sure what to do. Perhaps I'm putting too much weight on my feet vs. the saddle, which comes from my MTB background? I dunno. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!!

Sounds like you need to make an appointment with a podiatrist, my friend.

I have these in my Carnac road shoes, which are super stiff and got uncomfortable on long rides. They worked pretty well.

Which model did you get? I have a custom fitting place 3 miles away, I might go that route. How much do these inserts run? If custom is going to cost me $50, I might as well sell my energy's and try for some sidi Mega widths.

I have an older pair and the model info has worn off. I paid about $60 which included the fitting but I thought it was worth it because they made my $200 shoes fit perfectly. They have also been quite durable and you can use them in more than one pair of shoes.

Well, I don't have all the answers but I hope I can help, since we both dealing with similar issues. I am 6' and 195 pounds, but have been above 200 pounds, I also wear a size 46 shoe (Shimano Pro Road). I currently run speed play X2 pedals. I had a great deal of foot pain and went to a insole which helped somewhat but I know that custom foot beds would make a big difference. I am still experiencing some HOT SPOTs and numbness which I think the pedals are causing so I am considered switching out my speedplays for Look pedals which offer a wider base for which the foot can rest on.
