31.6 Carbon or Ti seatpost???Bosephus

Does anyone know anyone who makes a 31.6 Titanium or Carbon Fiber seatpost. Ideally I'd like to get the Record or Chorus Titanium, but they don't seem to make it in anything, but 27.2 ....

Damn Klein coke can tubing ...

Thanks

How 'bout this additional question ...

Any comments on seat post shims with either of these posts and Klein tubing ... is it a bad idea? I know it isn't a great idea on an MTB, but I'm thinking I might be able to get away with it on a roadbike ...

If it matters I'm about 165 lbs and I've got a Quantum Race with Flite Gel Saddle.

I have a buddy who just had to have the Moots Ti seatpost for his Stumpjumper (MTB). It comes in 27.2 and the Stumpjumper is a 30.9. He used a shim and it works fine. But, for what he paid for that Moots, he could have bought 4 1/2 Thomson seatposts. I just don't get it. So, I would think a shim will work fine for you, but have you looked at Thomson?

I don't know of anyone who makes that size for stock in titanium, but check with Moots or maybe Seven, they may be willing to build you one. And I know there are a couple of small carbon shops out there that may do the same.

I'm currently using a Thompson Elite ...

I'm looking for something to add a little absorption to my bike and ease up the ride a bit. That Quantum Race is about as stiff as it gets. I'm thinking a Ti post might be just the answer.

It is of course up to you, but I don't think I would spend the money. How much post do you have showing? Four, maybe five inches? I don't think that will make enough difference to justify the cost. But, try to find a LBS with one in stock that you can try. You may also want to try one of those saddles supported by elastomers. That may absorb some road shock.

Here's a link from U.S.E. that will let you use the seatpost you want as long as it is a 27.2 size. I have a U.S.E. seatpost for my mountain bike and it works well. Performance now carries U.S.E. carbon seatposts as well. I have a Campy carbon seatpost for my road bike and it works well also. Hope this helps.
