|I'm going to be doing a charity ride in early May, Boston to Washington DC in 5 days. I'll need to bring some rainwear just in case. Should I pay the big $$ for gore tex, or is there another alternative. I aleady know that the PVC rain coats get real uncomfortable after only a short bit of riding, I don't want to drownd in my own sweat. How about treated nylon? Is it the same??|

|Don't cheap out on the raingear, although with the prices of raingear, it is tempting.|

|i also think gore-tex is worth the money. i've found the new lightweight stuff, although it feels heavy on you, is actually cooler - more breathable - than some light-weight poly/nylon fabrics. but the bulkyness of it can be a drag (pun intended!).
pretty pissed a few weeks ago when i crashed and ripped the arm of my gore-tex cycle jacket though. that's the downside to expensivo cycle gear. but at least it wasn't my arm.

|OK, I get the hint, spend the $$$. How about the gore tex knock offs?? i.e. Hind Rain Jammer, or the Performance Ultrex??|| |
