Mavic wheel rattle.HELP!LCRIII

New Mavic Cosmos wheel set. During 2nd ride, reel wheel started to rattle. Sounds like it is coming from inside the hub. It is not a rotating noise. It is quiet on smooth roads. When I take the wheel off and bounce it or shake it you can hear it. Any experience or suggestions?
How about return it?TJeanloz

I'd bring it back to the shop you purchased it from and ask for a new one. Something is really, really wrong if you can hear the noise when you shake it- your authorized Mavic dealer should be of some help.

I had that "problem." Ended up being the valve stem htting against the inside of the hole. Put some black tape around the valve stem to deaden the noise.

had some heliums - rear wheel developed a rattle which showed up only at walking speed or less. problem was simple - one of the rings at base of a nipple had separated away - at slow rotation, ring would slide up and down the spoke causing a tinny rattling noise. once up to speed, rotational force kept little ring at rim. don't know if this applies to you but it's information anyway.

Same thing here with Mavic rims. The problem was solved when I took off the tire and rim tape and shook out the little aluminum burrs that were created when they drilled the spoke holes.

I bet you that's what it is. I have one of those burs in my fork too. I never bothered to do anything about it, it doesn't bother me.

I have a Mavic Open 4 wheelset that I get a creaking sound with. It's the spokes, but I can't tell exactly where. I've greased the spoke heads, in the middle where they cross each other and the nipple/rim joint. I've tightened all the spokes too. It's a mystery.

The grease may not penetrate the nipple/rim joint enough to stop the noise but a very light lubricant probably would.
