Do I need normal reach or long reach brakes? Will long reach brakes work on the frame?

xposted on Vintage/retro board as well.

My '73 Paramount fixie has a standard reach center pull Dia-Comp brake caliper which I got brand new on ebay for around $3. Mounted on the front with a 700c wheel and stock Paramount fork, the pads are positioned near but not at the bottom of the slots. It works great and honors the vintage look. No rear brake.
