riding after a vasectomy? 6 weeks off bike?striker

I'm scheduled to get fixed (I wish it was a fixed gear) and both the doctor and literature both say to stop exercising for 6 weeks, especially cycling.

Does anyone have any experience here? I'm thinking a couple weeks while the small incision heals up?

Plenty of room for jokes on this post and I can use a good laugh, but I'm looking for some good advice too.

thanks for replying,

Scheduled to have one in about a month and if I really thought about it would have had it done in October. Might have to wait until next year, since the thought of taking 2 or more weeks off the bike, now, sounds more painful than the procedure.

Here's a link to a discussion on cyclingnews.com; it shows everyone heals differently, some could ride in a couple of days, some much longer:

good luck,

Ouch! I still remember. I was back on a trainer in a few days, riding EASY. It was in January, and at that time I didn't ride much outside in winter, but was able to go pretty hard [no pun intended], within a week to 10 days. Remember, there is a vas deferens between before and after. Good luck.
isn't it easier just to wait until menopause?wolfereeno

I had the procedure on a Friday at 10 am. Sat in bed the whole rest of the day with iced nuts. Saturday barely moved, iced the nuts. Up a little more Sunday and less ice. Monday at work with a little tightness, little to no swelling. 24 MILE TUESDAY MORNING CLUB RIDE NO PROBLEM. No problems since. mnost of the guys said they were in pain for a week or two. I don't know if my Doc was better or what, I simply saw no reason to wait. USE ICE, soon it gets numb.
I'm hoping for the samehrv

Have it on a Friday, plan to be a f*****g hammerhead the week before:group rides, hill repeats, tt intervals, century, etc. Will be begging for a week off the bike!

1 week no sex, 1 week no exercise are the instructions I got.
This assumes no complications arise during that week.

I also think you won't WANT to be on the bike that soon for comfort reasons. There's no medical reason you couldn't if the procedure went well.

my experience was 3 weeks. Its not something you want to mess with as you realise now all that down there is quite fragile.
