FC 508 to get fixed!DougSloan

After a little lobbying, the FC 508 director has decided to add a fixed division:

Hello friends!

I'm pleased to announce that I will be offering a fixed gear division at the 2004 Furnace Creek 508.

I haven't put the specific rules together yet, but I would expect that the same gear, fixed only, would be required for the duration. Ideally, I'd like to see this as more than just a fixed division and more of a "purist" or "classic" division as well: steel frames required, no aero bars, tyres at least 25mm wide, at least 32 spokes per wheel, etc.

At the same time, I don't want to turn people away who want to ride fixed, but with more "modern" (I prefer "current") equipment. But I also don't want to have lots of subcategories, i.e. those with "classic" rigs and those with "current" rigs, etc.

So consider this a call for input and suggestions from those of you who would actually participate.

This should be fun and exciting and I look forward to seeing where this goes. I'm also hoping it will help set the stage for our transcontinental event in 2006 or 2007.

Best regards
