Can you tell me which chain tensioner is suitable for a VanDessel hub in a Van Dessel CRB Frame. I am getting tired of waiting for the Surly Tuggnut.

A few people on the single-speed board at have already posted pics of it in use on thier bikes.

BTW - Did you ever ride your CRB in BikeNY?

Also, post some pics of your CRB build if you have time.

Thanks for the info. I'll speak to the LBS. I've been waiting for two months.

I did do Bike NY, and I think once is enough. the security checks were too slow. I have been enjoying the Bikesummer activities, and I did the Brooklyn waterfront ride two sundays ago. My bike got as much attention as another fellow's Moulton.

I'll post a pic soon. I just got a camera.
C-Rides and the Fixed/SSss-nyc

I think I might try out on of the c-rides just to see if I can make it on my CRB since I have mostly used it to get around while running errands.

Maybe I will see you on a ride...can't really miss the neon green!
B rides are better.PaulNYC

I'd recommend the B rides more. C rides are great 'cause of the lower pace, but with the exception of the ride I did which was an educational bike tour, the breaks are too long.

A B ride has shorter breaks, and the higher speed encourages a higher cadence. I do not like to pedal too slow. The longest ride I've done so far is 43 miles, and the worst part was the sunburn from my foolishness.

I'll get around to a picture today.

My wife cannot "yet" really keep up on the B rides so I am stuck in the C rieds for now. My CRB is built as a single-speed with 700x40 tires so it slows me down enough to get a good workout on the rides. The 5BBC C-rides are what have really been bugging me so I hope the NYCC C-rides are a bit faster.

I am probably going to build a Surly Steamroller as a fixed gear so that I can get an even better workout on the C rides although I may try a few B rides on my own.

Be well and hopefully I will see you on a ride soon!

What gearing to you use on the CRB? (fixed and free)

Is it a good gear to use on the b-rides? Would you change it to something else? Are you a spinner or a masher?

I just added photos in another frame. I use 39x16 which I find comfortable. I am not so strong.
