|i need a new chainset. i have decided to use a regular double chainset. i would like to use something a shimano sora. would i just use the recomended 110mm bottom bracket, and be able to put my chainring in the outer position and have a straight chain line?|

|With the standard BB, you'll probably have to use the inner position to get the proper chainline. Of course it depends on which hubs you're using.|

|I use a 113 mm BB with an old Sugino double crank. Without the inner ring, it barely clears the chain stay. I use a redished a 6 speed wheel that is almost prefectly symetrical. It all lines up perfectly.|

|was to install the crankset with whatever BB you have and measure it. Then buy the spindle length that will put one of the rings in line with the cog. Measure the cog and ring from the bike center.
I used an old 600 crankset and the standard 107mm double BB and found that the chainline was 4 mm in from the outer ring and 3mm out from the inner. I installed a 113 BB from a triple and the inner ring now is within 1 mm of both the fixed cog and BMX freewheel on my basic Suzy flip-flop.
Remember to change the spindle length by 2mm for every 1mm you need to move the ring. Also measure your actual hub and cog/freewheel because they are not all the same.
