Anybody try the Suzue Basic/ Mavic MA3 wheelset from Harris?MXL02

$119 built by QBP. I'm thinking of getting this just to ride to work on an old beater. I know these are bottom of line hubs and rims, but how bad are they? Will they hold up?

I've never tried them but I've heard they work fine. The only complaint I've heard is the bearings might need to be repacked/adjusted. If you're not on this email list, I highly recommend it.

It's a very good group of Fixed riders.

So Mark, what's your beater, a Colnago? :-)

They way things are going on ebay it'll probably be the Ciocc...which I am trying to sell to pay for the Paramount. Since I have to wait and build out the Paramount with good stuff, I thought I would keep the Ciocc and build it up with cheapo stuff...at least I could start getting "fixed", then if I decided that was the way I wanted to go all the time, buying the vintage Campy track hubs would make more sense. If I decided to go SS like you, then the Phils may be the better way to go.

ps thanks for the email list tip...I have registered...how does it look for the Katy ride?

these are the only hubs that i use now for fixed. when you first get a set of these hubs they need stripping and repacking. after about 200 miles strip them again and replace the bearings. repack them and they will just run and run. very good hubs if you set them up correctly. brilliant for road or track. my latest wheels that iv built are suzue hubs with mavic mach2 cd2 tubular rims and sapim spokes. i use some expensive branded kit on my bike but carnt see the point of going past suzue hubs.

my next project is a ma3 rimmed version for winter use. im using a 36h setup. the spokes im going to lace them in the crows foot design, very nice with suzue high flange hubs.

it's worth the extra money to upgrade to suzue promax hubs. cartridge bearings, upgraded axel.
I love mineTig

I bought the rear wheel only and love it. Like the others said, it needs to be repacked and set up better. I can do it for you for free if you drop it off at the shop I work at (where we met for the ride last year, Hwy 3 @ Bay Area Blvd). I also had to de-burr the valve stem hole since it came with a rough edge.

I love the 36 spoke wheels. They are as tough as nails and ride like a dream.

His Suzue Promax wheelset sounds even better, but I have no personal experience with them.
