After reviewing lots of threads about whether or not to do the brake thing - I've decided to go with a front brake. Does anyone know a good (read "cheap") source for a brake kit?

people are forever, for whatever reason, 'upgrading' their componentry. Many LBSs have a box of used parts they'll usually let go for a song (being as they got 'em for free)
My LBS had good (cheap) stuff...PdxMark

A single Shimano dual pivot brake, better than Sora but not labeled 105 (not sure what it is), and simple aero brake levers (not Shimano) - $40-$50 total. I like the aero levers, since the cable runs under the bar tape.

Current model Calipers in terms of price and supposed function...

Sora
Tiagra (aka A550)
Tiagra Long Reach (aka A550)
105
Ultegra
Ultegra Long Reach (aka BR-600)
Dura Ace

You can also use a non-cuurent one which would work the same and most bike shops will have them lying around...

RSX (similar to Sora)
RX-100 (similar to Tiagra, was also availible in short and long reach models)
