Bike Lust: This Board is gonna cost me...PdxMark

Bike lust hasn't taken too big a bite out of me lately, but I got bit by a thread here a couple days ago.

My Bianchi Pista fixie is fine. I'm loving fixed gear riding. But glibly suggesting that Big Country get a Vanilla fixie if he didn't want to replace his cog got me looking over the Vanilla Web site. And going back... And back...

Now I'm thinking that a Vanilla fixie might be a very nice replacement for my perfectly fine Bianchi and a one year old Campy-equipped Caad5. (I'd still have another road bike.) The Cannondale and the Pista together might cover the bulk of a nice Vanilla fixie - well, part of it anyway. I've had the Pista for about a month, so it would be sold without being too used. I can justify this nonsense as a simplification of my life, reducing two bikes down to one. Otherwise I need to hang another 89 cent hook in the basement.

So to keep the fantasy alive, I'm pondering a Vanilla fixie with nice crisp handling and suited for commuting year-round (fender mounts, bottle mounts for light battery), front brake (leaning against a rear brake). I like the Record brake levers. What cranks/hubs should I consider? It'll be ridden year-round, which means rain here. I usually get Open Pro rims, anything wrong with them on a fixie?

So, your thoughts please. Indulge my fantasy. Or tell me I'm being self-indulgent. Thanks.
I WILL own a Vanilla some day...tamjam

Most likely my next road bike though, not a fixie. What's not to like?

have Vanillas just recently burst on the scene? i hadn't heard of them till a friend of mine got a lugged mtb fork from Sacha about 3 months ago. i fell in love with it and wanted one for myself. hadn't really heard or read anything about him/them till i saw this board.

kinda related, i e-mailed on Monday asking about cost and such, but haven't heard back.
How about one of each? A roadie & a fixie? nmPdxMark

if you have the time to swap parts.... keep your gears for the racing season and fixed for off.
