Track racers: what gear do you use in track races?Qubeley

I built up my track race bike over the winter, and haven't had a chance to try it out. I am running 49-16 right now.
After doing the sprint interval on my road bike several times, I begin to think 49-16 might be a little too small.
What gear do you track racers use? I will mostly concentrate on match sprint and miss-and-out.
you'll need at least two...jsbx

one for warming up and one for racing. If you're gonna be racing a 250m track, your current gear is a good starting point 'cause you have to be able to accelerate (spin) more quickly with the shorter straights. On a 330m track, there's more room on the back straight to wind up a bigger gear---just swap the 16t for a 15t. Warm up in the low 70s (49x18).
50/15 is the standard where I race.Alex-in-Evanston

Most folks who I know at Northbrook use this gear. Perhaps a bit bigger for the sprinters, a bit smaller for folks who like to go off the front for their points.

I used 48/13 on 650 wheels.
