Help with converting an old Bianchi to S/SJohnIV
Mar 28, 2003 6:10 PM
I am in need of some wisdom with converting a bike to Single Speed/fixed gear duty. I just bought an old Bianchi frameset with 126mm spacing in the rear. I am pretty sure they are 700c wheels. Out of curiousity, when did the standard make the switch from 27" to 700c? Anyway, my question is where would I go for parts for this singlespeed? Do I need to spread the rear to 135mm spacing? I only got the frame and fork, so using the existing wheels with the spacer kit is not an option. Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Conversion to 700 happened in the early '80s. My 2 retros, a '78 and '80 have 27" wheels.

The 126mm spacing is no problem, no need to spread.

Harris Cyclery is one place, Excelsports.com is another and in some areas is cheaper than Harris on same/similar products. Shop and price compare the 2.
