My buddies & I have done Ragbrai for the last 3 years (I'm the only one on a fg). This year, they want to do Ride the Rockies. Has anyone done it on a fixed before, and what gear ratio did you use? TIA.
There is a guy who did Boston/Montreal/Boston on a fixed.onespeed

I have done 6 RTR of geared bikes. I you can climb for 15-20 miles on a fixed gear and be able to ride 65-100 miles a day at altitude and big rollers with high speed descents (55mph plus), go for it.

You would propably want to ride a 39x21. The last day last year was 85 miles with a 45 mile head wind all day. The fast kids were in under 5 hours with big echolons and pacelines.

I have met a guy that did it on a single chainring up front and a 5speed in the rear (42x12-19) and he was hurtin the last couple of days.

good luck

I'm sure your wonderful teammates would tow you if you get tired. I hear they're great guys and quite good looking too.
