| What tubs to buy?? | dreww Jan 21, 2004 10:47 AM | | I am building some sprints for the 04 season and wondering what tubs to use. In Canada Tufo's are popular but cost $70 U.S + tax + freight, too rich for my little dabble at cross. how about the cheaper Tufo pros? or Wobler round stud. Vittorias?? Any suggestions muchly appreciated. I now ride Michelin Mud II's, courses are mainly grass, lots of rideable hills with some roots and a little tarmac. |

If you trail ride etc...(besides race) an excellent choice. Almost like a MTB tire for durability. The challenge grifos are good as well. I'm a big guy so I run larger tires, the 30 and 32's are great as are the 28's, but just too skinny for me. If I was building a full race only wheel I'd run the Tufo Elites but A) I don't have the $$ and B) don't consider myself a good enough rider to warrant such $$ on tires. keep your eyes on the web, there are places with good deals. we had an end of season blowout sale on Tufos, my T-34's cost me $30 each. I don't have a pair but other riders who have them were complaining that the sidewalls weren't very durable and that the Tufos can't be repaired. I think it was due to lack of seam on the bottom side of the tubbie.
But, if you can get them go $30 each, that's about the same price for some high end clinchers. |

I just bought a pair of 28c tires to race on next season for $40.
Normally I ride the 34c "cheap" Tufos. Good all-round size if you wanna mtn bike on them too.
You tried someone like total cycling in Ireland? They may have an end of the cross season blowout...

| Tufo Sidewalls | atpjunkie Jan 22, 2004 12:03 PM | | get weaker as tire gets better (it's where they save weight and make tire supple). yup tore through a sidewall of a prestige but it may have happened to any tire (broken stick zipped up the side). Yes Mike dumb to train on race tires, lesson learned but you gotta get a feel for them before race day yunno? Yup cheap T-34's for Mr Shaw and I. |
