|Yeah, yeah... It's been well over a week since the race took place (Jan. 3rd) but like the local paper says... 'If you haven't read it, it's still news.'
The final race in JS Haiku Shop's Smells Like Cross series was a mean one, Mr. Grinch. I don't know how he pulled it off, but it seemed like the entire course went uphill. Well, it just SEEMED that way, I guess. I can remember a few flat sections, and one VERY fast downhill part right before the finish line. But the rest was pretty tough, and I know JSHS wouldn't have it any other way. =)
Since we didn't have bad weather for any of the races, JSHS decided to make some of his own. Right before a long flat section with 6 barriers, he placed a water sprinkler. After the first lap, the ground before the first barrier was a sloppy mix of mud and dead grass. But honestly, the sprinkler's water felt pretty cooling after a couple of laps.
After another LeMans start and around 30 minutes of walking my bike up hills I should have been riding, I was toast. Happy toast, but toast nonetheless.
My pictures of the A race are located here:
To me, the picture below perfectly sums up what this series was about. It's a guy who is obviously having fun on his bike. No matter how hard it was for me, no matter how much walking I had to do because my legs just wouldn't push the pedals any longer, and no matter that I got last place in each race I did... I had fun. And I couldn't wait to go back for the next race.
