| mtn -> cyclocross convert | bm Jan 6, 2004 10:43 PM | | ok . . . so the guys in 'General' discussions said i could convert my old mtn bike to a cyclocross. i didn't think it was possible until i saw pictures of a converted Litespeed Hiwassee on these boards.
i am not looking to race cyclocross yet-especially with this heavy old frame. but, i would like to have some fun with an all-arounder . . . something to train and commute with.
i need some advice about wheels and forks. this frame is a hard tail univega with a rigid front. what susp forks should i look for? how about wheel + tire sizing?
i'd appreciate any advice and/or ideas. thanks |
| wheels | bm Jan 6, 2004 11:46 PM | | my wheels are old and heavy. how about something new and lighter like these: http://www.chucksbikes.com/store/wh004.htm don't really know about the hub set on these though |
| these would work (but I'd prefer something nicer/lighter). (nm) | jtferraro Jan 7, 2004 6:30 AM | | |
| some help... | jtferraro Jan 7, 2004 6:28 AM | | You don't need a suspension fork. Be happy you have a rigid fork, and keep it! I'm not sure what wheels are on the bike now, if any, but I'd look for something light and relatively strong. Maybe a set of Mavic 517's w/decent hubs or something similar? For tires I went with the Hutchinson Cross Comp's (26 x 1.3). I was also considering the Continental Cross Country (26 x 1.5).
Have fun,
