a naive tire/rim question......mealex

Hi all,

I'm new to cyclocross rigs, and I have a question about rim/tire size ratios. My riding is mostly recreational, on gravel roads.

ok....maybe I have more than one question.

I was wondering if there was a limit to how wide a cross tire i can have on my cross rims, with my cross rims being standard road rims.(mavic cxp-22's).......I suppose I'm also wondering if the road rims are sturdy enough for long rides bouncing around on gravel roads, or if i should maybe get a wider rim, such as those that are on my wife's hybrid bike.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. I looked for information on this subject via "googling", but couldn't find much of anything.(so any web links that anyone knows of would be helpful, too)

Thanks much,
Alex

Your mavics should take tyres up to about 35's without any problem. You will not need anything wider for gravel roads,CXPs will be tough enough unless you are really heavy or really unlucky. Personally I would go for 28's or 30's unless the comfort factor is particularly important to you.
Thanks much, bro.mealex
