XTR derailuer; canti brakes, and what levers?lancezneighbor

I will be building up a general all around bike with a single ring in front and wide range mountain bike gearing in the back. I will use canti brakes. What levers should I use? I will be using a Surly Long Haul Trucker frame. Any other comments or advice is welcome as well. Thanks!

I finished my CX-bike last week. I built it with XTR derailleur also (2002 rapid-rise short-cage model, i preferred the 02 model because it has the barrel adjuster and 03 does not), and i use it with Dura-Ace indexed bar-end shifter. That works great, it shifts so sharply to lower gears :)

I use cantilever brakes too (Spookys with blue KoolStop pads), but with Record aero brakelevers, which i guess no one would recommend for your intended use...

P.S. Here is pictures of my CX bike (i am too shy to show it on own topic ;) ) http://www.kolumbus.fi/niko.koskela/fort.html (and yes, the brakes have been set up properly since taking that photo...) It is an Fort Columbus Foco steel frame.
Very nice bike...lancezneighbor
