Are these rims a good -- ie. a worhtwhile purchase?Colin_S

Hi,

I will hopefully be building up a singlespeed cx wheelsey for a new frame in the near future. Anyway, I cam across these rims -- Araya TX350 -- for a song. Are these worth purchasing with the intent of building a cheap, yet strong, wheelset.

Thanks,

Colin

The design looks plenty strong. What about the weight? I assume the "350" doesn't mean grams as these look like in 700c they would run maybe 480 grams.

where to get?

Nashbar has them built on Alivio hubs for $70 (both wheels). They are drilled for schraeder valves and therefore will leak water and grime into the rim cavity sometimes if you use presta valves.

There's a cure for that- build a "gasket" inside the rim just around the valve hole with gasket compound.
