Despite the cold and wind, Joe Elliot (MTBKanata.com) was on-the-scene again and took over 300 pictures at yesterday's 'cross race in Kingston, ON: http://mtbkanata.fotki.com/2003/cyclecross/cyclocross_-_kingston/

roll call: A fun time was had by all, if you kept warm....Spunout

Well my head was warm, fingers frozen, upper body sweating, toes numb from the start.

Good race for me, kept upright and ran all of the barriers. Didn't push too hard at the end, was being distracted by thoughts of my post-race recovery drink.

Other RBRers, check in!

Cheers!
I was cold at the Start Line, but once off, I was fine...SS_MB-7

I was cold at the Start Line, but once the race was on it's way, I was fine. But, that post-race hot Tim Horton's coffee was very, very nice.

My front wheel slipped-out on the first lap on the hard left turn at the base of a small grassy drop (after the stair-case climb) and I went down. No big deal until I noticed the shoe buckle on my Shimano 320s had popped 90% open...not ideal for riding or running. I tried to close-it while riding, but with thicker gloves, it was not possible. I just rode it out.

Tricky, but fun, course. Well worth the drive.

See you at Upper Canada!

The grassy drops were okay for me. That one drop with a few feet of leaves was fun with both wheels locked up! Also down at the lakefront with the loose gravel at the bottom of the traverse drop called for some deft handling.

All in all, I had a great time. Upper Canada (if dry and a bit faster) will be nicer for me than the last time we were there!

Nice pics!!!
I hope to be at Upper Canada this weekend. Look for a Chinese guy on a very slow moving blue Trek XO1. Wave or shout out when you pass me :)

This was my first cross race, and I had an AMAZING amount of fun. The course was long enough to keep things interesting, and technical enough to put my MTB skills to goo use. I'll probably post some of my own impressions at a later date. But for now, I'll just say thanks to those who organized, raced, and took photos here in my home town of Kingston, making my first race a truely memorable one.

Cheers,
Damian Bradley

Glad you had fun. You want some technical riding? Come out to Almonte on the 23rd. Upper Canada is a fun course too, similar to Kingston, maybe even less technical.
I need wheels....dpb

...but not for my bike. Unfortunately, I've nary a car at the moment. I'll see about getting a lift, but it doesn't look good. I want to get a car specifically to get to cross races now!

You looked like you had a good race...I've still got a lot to learn from folks such as yourself. Now I've got some faces to put to some names, I'll know keep an eye out on RBR and whatnot, as some relatively local resources.

Cheers!
