SF Bay: Bolinas fireroad 'crossable?StevenB

Any Bay Area folks out there do Bolinas Ridge on your cross bike? I've been here for years, but have yet to hit that trail...just want to make sure there aren't any nasty surprises that make it unridable.

Thanks - Steven

Haven't ridden that trail in years, and it was on my MTB when I did, but I can't recall anything about the trail that would make it unridable for cross. Been thinking of trying it myself actually.

I did it several times on my cross bike. No problems. Reality is there isn't anything within riding distance of SF that can't be done on a cross bike (and usually it's faster on a cross bike!) I even went up and down Eldridge on my cross bike (not something I suggest doing unless you're a total masochist)

i'll definitely try bolinas. i've also found the other marin and east bay trails to be rideable - except for eldridge, which i've been avoiding. but the looks you get from folks on mtbs when you blast up RR Grade are pretty amusing...

I can fly up RR Grade on my crosser. Favorite 'maintenance' loop is up RR to the top, then take the road to Pantoll/Panoramic back around to the little fire station by Mountain Home, where I jump back on RR.

Seeing so many more cross bikes on Tam this year than last, people must be catching on to the fact that a >30lb FS just isn't what you need on 90% of that mountain.
