Bella Cross Pics!!Sabine

This weekend's event was the 2nd Surf City race. It was the race before Halloween, always a special race for us Bellas. It was also one of the hottest days on record for October, not good weather for those racing in gorilla costumes...

don't know if he was in MBA as I don't read it and Mark doesn't boast about that kind of stuff. But he lives down that way so it could be.

I thought the reply was down there, not up here. Thats Larry Hibbard. I still have no idea about whether he modeled for MBA though/

I have heard some legends about Larry...like the time he rode from Santa Cruz to Grant Ranch on his mtn bike. Guess he rode over on his slick tires then swapped them for knobbies then does the race. Wins the race then rides home.

there are lots of them, I bet most of them true.

We went to a post cross bbq a few years back. Larry rode to the party on his bike after the race. He had a backpack with him and in his backpack was a pair of flip flops and big steak that he threw on the grill. He hung around long enough to cook his steak and eat it and say a few hellos and then he switched shoes and rode off.

I attended a training camp at the Olympic Training Center in 1990. They invited the top 10 finished from Expert MTB nationals that year as well as some roadies including Bobby Julich and Chan McRae. The idea was to get riders into 'cross since at the time it lookied like 'cross would be an Olympic sport before MTB. Anyway we were doing 2-4 hours on the road in the morning and another 3 hours of cross training and 'cross stuff in the afternoon. This camp was in November in Colorado Springs and Larry never wore tights or even long sleeves. He slept outside and would go for midnight full moon rides. He was riding for Yeti at the time and they sent one of the first Yeti ARC frames directly to the camp for him. If I remember right he went on to finish 3rd at Elite Cyclocross Nationals that year.

he preferred it to running. We were both almost evacuated for a fire and our lungs still hadn't recovered.

I want a Vello Bella shirt, I really apreciate what you "guys" are doing for the young females in the cycling comunity. As well as your all around mission, to ride and win against the big dogettes.

Great costumes! That's too cool!

I'm jealous that others in the country are already racing cross. December is when it starts here in Tucson. Can't wait! I'll be wearin' the Bella jersey with pride again. Gotta dig out my accessories like the reindeer antlers for Christmas, and Happy New Year stuff for January.
