|Dont think its radically changed, other than graphics.
My impressions after having the bike for a few years: Incredibly versatile, stiff, great handling, perhaps a bit short in the top tube.
An incredibly fun, workman-like bike.

|Actually, the frame is quite a bit different from the previous versions. The top tube cross-section is vertically ovalized at the head-tube and horizontally ovalized at the seat-tube, while the seat tube looks like it is externally butted up near the top.
Overall, I am extremely pleased with the bike. The components all work well together, it rides and handles really well, and I think the greenish paint looks great (particularly in the sun). The only problem has been the pangs of guilt I've experienced after flogging it mercilessly in the Oregon slop.

|a cross bike fairly lives to be flogged in the slop. that's what it was born to do! :)
if the original poster means the basic jake -- with sora parts -- then the frame is basically the same as the pre-2002 jake the snake. it's generic 7005 tubing. good and strong but not terribly light. the geometry is the same, though, and the best thing about the konas is their handling.

|I really like mine. (and have almost lost it a few times to bike admirers). It needed better wheels and I changed the rear set to XT. The top tube is short (thats one reason I bought it). It rides smooth and takes a beating. I do alot of single track riding on it and it's already my favourite bike in the stable. Just bought it 2 months ago. It looks much better with green tires. I am not a great off road rider but there are many passing me and winning.|

|I've got mine and I'm sure glad it's not that funky goose s**t green color! Much prefer the white/metallic gray (see picture in earlier post)
Still waiting on the WoundUp fork so I can built it up.
One issue we have had with these frames involves the butting on the seat tube. It's not externall butted as some posters have said. Rather the seat tube get wider a couple cm below the top tube. The issue is that long seatposts tend to move around causing an annoying knocking/clicking sound. Not really an issue if you use a shorter post and/or cut your post down so that it doesn't go below the wider section of the seat tube. I also suspect some people went a little too far with the flex hone.
