Impossibility of finding a new/used Merckx Alu Cross in US?(6 posts)

Impossibility of finding a new/used Merckx Alu Cross in US?mpj

I am thinking about selling one of my road bikes, and getting a nice cross bike for all-season riding in Michigan. The Merckx Alu Cross really catches my eye, and since I already have a Merckx Road bike, I'm sort of swayed in that direction. Problem is that almost all the Merckx dealers in the US, do not even seem to handle their cross frame, which is pretty odd? Looking for a 54 cm, or perhaps a 56. Does anyone know a mail order place in the US that stocks these frames? Even better would be one that stocks the bike as a entire build; or perhaps finding a USED one. Surprisingly; there was just one on Ebay a short while ago, but it was a 52 cm, which would have been too small. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. {mpj@iserv.net}
Look in Portland, OR....Black Johnny

Check out River City Bicycles in Portland, OR. I am pretty sure that they have a built 56cm Merk on the floor right now. Might sweet rig....

Go to the GITA website (importers of Merckx frames) and then go to their listing of Merckx dealers, several have website links on that page. One in particular (a local shop for me) named Cycles BiKyle atleast had them in stock not long ago. I don't know if they only had the one for display or what but I do know that they do sell online and will also put together a complete bike for you and ship it wherever. Good luck with your search.

Thanks so far for the great tips! Although I do not expect to hear back from them before Tuesday, I did email the shop in Portland; and I will also attempt the GITA web-site search to see if anything comes up?

They have frame and fork for $850.00. Unfortunatly their bike build software program doesn't seem to work for their cross frames as it would be fun to play around with different build scenarios.

Sweet looking bike with Easton tubing.
