Straight bars + road cranks: what F Der can I use?kylog

I'm rebuilding my cross bike with straight bars and ultegra or 105 cranks. The plan is to put XT levers, an XT rear der and a road triple in front. I was going to put on an ultegra f der but I just read on sheldonbrown.com that the ultegra f der may not work with mtb levers. Any experiences or advice here? Thanks!

Shimano produces at flat-bar shifter that is supposed to work with their road grouppos (and in particular the front derailleur). The part reference is sl-r440.
I run XTR shifters with Ultegra 3x front end. Works great. (nm)TFerguson
