|Swap out Ultegra rear for XT?||aguyincolorado|

|Bought a used bike recently and am interested in getting wider gearing. I'm a tech novice and would appreciate any input. |
Possible to swap out the Ultegra cassette and derailleur for XT? Would there be any complications? Problems with the hub? Gotchas I should be aware of?
Thanks for the help!

|Keep in mind that with a bigger cassette you must use an MTB derailleur. An Ultegra rear derailleur max's out at 27T for a low gear. With an XT rear derailleur you can go up to 34T. Hubs and shifting should be fine.

|I think you can run up to 30T (I've run a 28T on my DA without issues). I think the 27T limit stems from the fact that Shimano's largest road series cassette (Ultegra) is a 27.|

|I currently run a full Ultegra drivetrain with an XT 11-34 cassette with little trouble. I cannot see why it would be any different for your situation.

|Any issues shifting into the 34T on the rear? Just curious, as I have always heard that road derailleurs have issues with the bigger MTB cassettes. I could see an 11-30T (which died when Shimano went to 9 speed) but I was always under the impression that a 32T or 34T was beyond the Ultegra derailleurs capabilities...|

|I would assume you have a long cage Ultegra unit to support the longer chain to wrap around the 34T.
I always thought MTB cassettes would not work with Ultegra/Dura Ace derailleurs.
