Cross Wheel Questions(2 posts)

Cross Wheel QuestionsPT

Is there any reason I can't put a 35 or 37 width tire on a "regular" road rim like a Mavic Open Pro? Or should I use a more classic touring rim like the Mavic T224 for a bigger tire?

I would like to get my hands on another front wheel for riding my cross bike on gravel/dirt/jeep roads. I can pick up a pretty nice radially spoked Mavic Open Pro wheel for not too much. Does a quality radially spoked wheel hold up well on gravel/dirt? I'm not talking racing on it, just riding some rougher roads on it...

have run Geax 38's on O/P rim to no trouble (yet), so should be okay, otherwise get a Salsa DelGado, that will work with big tires. Radial lacing makes a vertically stiff but torsionally softer wheel. I wouldn't suggest it for cx unless you are light (and so is your riding style)
