Please point me in the right direction......TNSquared

I am preparing for my first cx races this season - a series of seven or eight races here in the memphis area.

Without asking you to repeat the same general advice you folks no doubt have repeated ad naseum for many a "newbie" post - can you recommend a few good sources for cx specific information? Books, mag's, whatever would be great. I'm particularly interested in conditioning/training, technique (painless dismounts and re-mounts!) and strategy.

Thanks much - todd

i interesting
turn off Kettner onto Broadway Friday evening around 6:30? Big galoot on a yellow Ridley? (Figured there aren't too many other people in Dago riding those.) Sure saw
i somebody's
life flashing before my eyes.

Never realized they could lock up the wheels on those trolleys...

No wasn't me. And damn I thought I was only guy in SD with a Ridley. Ridley is presently stabled in Garage with Chainring switch. Was also babysitting daughter Fri. eve. Scary huh? was it a Ridley cross or road? Usually if I'm downtown it's on Molteni Orange Merckx. Heading West on B Street, North at the Opera House then A to PCH. Head home through Gaslamp and past new ballpark. Walrus you are in SD? let's ride Dammit. I'll take you on my Balboa cross track. Where are you located?

sounds like that guy gets off on whole 'nother brain chemical
there was one guy in the last cx race on a new Ridley but I thought him from out of town.
Well, that's a relief...The Walrus

It was a 'crosser, but I didn't really notice the specifics--too distracted by the prospect of impending doom.

I noticed that ballpark (my sister was staying in the Marriott nearby)--whussup with that? Isn't there still one out off I-8 (Qualcomm or something like that?)

No, I'm not in SD (although I could be persuaded to move down there, or more likely to Leucadia or Encinitas, if there was work). I'm a few counties up the coast (Ventura).

yes a citizen funded baseball only park. our pro teams hold our city hostage and our leaders have less spine than Christopher Reeves. Here's how they did it,
A) put together a winning team, Padres 1998, made the world series, lost to Yankees
B) Buy up all the cheap real estate in run down SoMa (south of Market) district. mostly industrial, warehouse, haven for the homeless
C) put a ball park initiative on ballot by bribing a few officials and pass it on hype of 'winning franchise'
D) get taxpayers to fund majority of park
E) get rid of most of the key players that got you to playoff after the election, return team to basement dwellar that they are known for
F) build luxury hotels/condos on once crackland area now known as 'ballpark district"
G) make LOTS of money
H) complain about welfare moms whilst you received a 120 million handout from the govt.

me bitter?
That Hotel/Condo behind and above the Park. The condos will go for 1.2-1.7 million.
What kind of work you do? I'll keep my ears open.
Qualcomm Park still there, Chargers trying to get a new one. They are threatening leaving. I say good riddance. Get rid of all the pro teams and build SD as the indv. sport mecca that it already is. Cycling, Tri's, Running you name it.
Planning a Snow to Surf UberCross fun ride this winter. Lemme know if interested.

the SD cross training sessions starting down where you are? I know there's a bunch of guys that get together in the winter at UCSD (Wed AM?). There was a group getting together in the evenings in C'bad (I was there the night the rangers kicked us out of the park), but I haven't heard anything about whether they've schmoozed the park guys or not.

Talk to you soon,

Mike
