|I am upgrading my cross bike and am looking for opinions relating to handlebars. I like the Salsa ones for their strength, price (Moto Ace versions) and the double cable grooves. But, I am not sure what ones to buy...
Is the flares on the bell lap excessive?
Are the short and shallows the same bar as the bell lap without the flare? They seam to have the same drop (144mm) and reach (82mm).
What do you guys think is the right choice? I use my Surly Crosscheck for racing, training and sometimes commuting.
Thanks for the help,

I'm using a Bell Lap 42 and I really like them. I notice the flare more when I'm looking at the bars than when I'm riding.

|I've got a pair of 46cm Bell Laps and I'm very happy with them. I don't really notice the flare, it's fairly subtle, not excessive. Excessive is the WTB dirt drop bar. Most of my friends don't even notice the flare until I point it out to them.
The small amount of flare will allow you to descend and turn tight corners in the drops without being restricted by your forearms contacting the upper part of the bar. Other than that you probably won't notice.

|I have some Salsa bell lap bars (44 I think-I'll measure when I get home) that I'd like to sell. They've only been used for a few months. email me at email@example.com|
