Want to CX(6 posts)

Want to CXsctri

OK, here is the deal,

I want to Cyclocross, but am low on the funds.
What would be more advisable, turning an MTB into a cyclo bike (i have seen that done) or turning my road ride into one.

The pro-cons

Tire clearance- MTB obviosally, the roadie has very little
Tire size- well, the road is 700cc, and thats what I want right?
Breaks- Both are rim, v-brakes vs. ultegra
Cost- well... its a trek 5200 (why i am so low on the funds!) and I dont know if I want to muck it up too much.

SO what should I do?
Convert? try and find used? cheapie new bike?

Thanks
RC

Don't ruin the 5200, that's a real beauty to wreck! Ultegra STI will cots you a bundle if you ...
Use the MTB instead.

Use the MTB; you'll snap the Trek fork the first time you hit barrier during a dismount.
Just check around for some 1.5" mtn bike tires, take off the bottle cages and the bar ends. Then, you are ready to go.
Practice dismounting and remounting since bad technique will always limit you.
