|Just thought I would post some picts on my latest project. I've been limping along for quite a while on some older Ringle hubs on my CX bike. The hubs have at least 5k miles and are on their second set of rims. At the start of July I had a pawl crack in the freehub and that set in motion the build up of some new wheels.
Since my CX bike has 135mm rear spacing it can take mountain bike hubs. With the great deals on the older XTR hubs out there I bought a front and rear and laced them 3x to Velocity Fusion Rims.
Mike Garcia (Bianchi4me) supplied the rims, spokes, and nipples for the project (thanks again Mike!). I chose Wheelsmith XL14's for the front wheel and NDS of the rear wheel. For additional strength I used DB14's on the drive side. You can see the differences in the butting of the spokes in the picture. The Velocity fusion rims seem like a nice compromise between the Deep V and the Aerohead. Not a super light rim but lighter then the Deep V with no need to run valve extenders to pump up the tire.
The final touch was a snap-in Ritchey rimstrip that Mike sent me. These strips are basically a big loop which stretch over your spoke bed. They seem to be very light (compared to Velox) and work well. There is no adhesive to anchor the strip thus I am a little concern about the strip shifting and exposing a spoke hole but so far no issues with approximately 120 miles of riding at 110 PSI...

|I just built a Fusion wheel as well. Feels pretty bulletproof with 3x 14/15 spokes. a tad heavier thaqn my O/P's but much stronger.|
