Getting Started in CXsuperdreadnought
Jul 14, 2003 5:59 PM
I have a Cannondale CX frame, and no parts, or old bikes to take parts off to build it. I want to get a kit for it. This will be my first year of CX. What parts level should I try to get, and where can I get a good price on a parts kit? In addition, of course, the budget is very tight.

I would go with 105 or Ultegra, 105 being a little cheaper.
I run 105 on my Fuji (except for Ultegra hubs)and it works well.
Good Luck!

What about Tiagra? I might try and go on the cheap on this bike...

Have never tried anything below 105. If anything like the mountain groups, Tiagra would be more for the rec. rider and not really up to racing.
Remeber you get what you pay for in bike parts.. to a point.

For cross I wouldn't go anything less than 105. Get a 105 build kit from Excel Sports ( You'll need to substitute the 105 brakeset for canti's (Avid or Redline). Also, pay a few extra bucks to get double butted spokes on the wheels. Or you might save some money by buying new and used parts off of ebay.
