Redline-2004 line?(10 posts)

Redline-2004 line?Sadlebred

Does anyone know about what time of year Redline usually releases their line of bikes for the upcoming cross season? I have money in hand ready to buy from my LBS (they are checking for me but can be a little slow calling sometimes).

At 5'3", my budget cross bikes are limited. Surly is too heavy. Kellys are so nice but a little too expensive (I have a Kelly mtb and love it), and I can't find anything other than a 48 cm Redline that would fit. I'll take any suggestions. The top tube has to be a maxium 50.5 cm long. With a really short stem, the Redline works. A friend has the same set up for his 10 year old son that I will probably run. My budget is about $1200 (at discount through the shop I race for, not retail).

Did you take a look at the new Fuji Cross?

Meets your price range and I believe your sizing...

Sweet bike.

Nope....Fuji's are too big. The effective TT length is 52 cm. My max is 50.5; tt can't be any longer than 50.5 cm. I have a VERY short torso. Believe me, I've been looking for a CX bike for over 2 years. I know what will and won't fit me. I've helped design my custom mtb's in the past.

My choices are either Redline, Empella, or custom. I want the Redline b/c they are a good value and are complete. I don't want to spend $2000 on a cross bike I'll ride about a dozen times a year. I want to have a little $$ left over to put towards my new custom road bike that I hope to buy at the beginning of next year.

My friend is like you, and he went with a 49 in the Fuji.

What about Kona, they make a 48.

No Kona....b/c I can't get it at cost, and the TT on the 48 is 53 cm. I need a 50.5 cm top tube or less.

I guess I'll go back to my original question...does anyone know when Redline comes out with their current (ie 2004) season bikes?

When I was looking for a Conquest 3 or 4 years ago, the line I got from the dealer was that Redline held back on the new line until after the Interbike show in September, and he didn't actually expect to see any Conquests until January, usually, since Redline was pushing out the BMX stuff first.

Not much different today, I'm afraid. At one point, I was seriously looking into the 2003 Conquest last September & would have bought one on the spot but availability was nil until this Jan/Feb.

This is the Ridley's crossbow, mid level cross frame and carbon fork on sale for $600 at:

I see that the top tube is 51cm as opposed to your request 50.5cm . Have you thought (or have tried) a short reach drop bar? Salsa Poco, Deda makes one, Ritchey (perhaps), the reach differs aprox 2cm less. At least on the poco's I have. A bit too short for me.
