Fork rake help?(3 posts)

Fork rake help?Mandrake

I've just acquired a Specialized M4 CX with a head angle of 71.5. In shopping around for forks, it seems like there is a pretty big variation in rakes. Could someone recommend an ideal rake for all-purpose use (i.e., dirt roads, trails, the occasional cross race)? Thanks.

Since nobody smarter than me answered,I'll try. Most cross makers seem to try to achieve a trail in the 60-62mm range, but there is some flexibilty.I believe that frame was originally spec'd with a Kinesis al fork, which has 45mm rake, probably somewhat low rake for such a slack head angle. My guess is that 45-50mm would be OK.

If you look at the Gunnar site, they list HA's and rake for the entire range, and you can get an idea.

This is a trail calculator site that may offer some insight.

Hope this helps,Dan
