Poll: Magura HS-66 BrakesJTS628

Just got a new/old 'cross bike and it came with bar ends and Magura brakes. I like Mags and had em on 2 mountain bikes but miss STI. Would you keep em or sell em and switch?

Prior message may have been unclear. The bike came w/drop bars, bar end shifters, and Magura hydraulic brakes that come with road brake levers. I like the way they feel but STI is no convenient . . .

keep the Mags and the bar ends. Best stoppers out there (a bit heavy) STI too expensive and unreliable IMHO. especially if you plan to ride in mud. Your barcons will last, handle wrecks in the mud and if they die it's 50 bucks. For Ult. STI it would run you 179 or so, plus new brakes and it will be another 179 every time they die.

You could keep them and add some Kelly take offs. A bit more convenient than barcons, but not quite as STI.

yes Take Offs another option, but that would mean purchasing something, I say go with what ya already own and save the $$ for a back up wheel set.

I've got a set on my roadie tandem and they have tons of power. I've been itching to swap them over to my cross rig for the winter months since I don't ride tandem much then anyways, but I'm waiting for the STI to die on my CX rig.

The one thing I don't like about the 66's is that the lever is kinda ugly and for my large hands not as comfortable as the STI levers. Oh well, you can't have it all.

I think you should keep them. Or better yet, sell them to me for dirt cheap!!! :-)
