You'll have some fun with that bike! I know you're a commuter so it the Jake going to be used on the daily ride?

The cross bike has some great versatility. It's been rainy here and my favorite trail is literally underwater. Thus I'm doing the roadie-thing and have 700x25c tires on the bike.

But when the singletrack drys out these go on!

Where did you purchase those tires?Mitch2

I like the treads on those. I currently ride on Kenda KrossCyclo. Nice tires(Krosscyclo) but not confidence inspiring on high speed turns.

They are pretty common (and cheap!). You can check them out here... I got a pair for $20...

I'll see how it goes, maybe I'll check out the race scene this winter. I know that some of the local mtb pros' show up to the races and kick ass (eg Andreas Hestler, of Rocky Mtn), so I'm prepared to be humbled.
Is that a 2003?MTJ

I'm trying to get a friend to buy one. The colors in your pic look a lot better than the pics on the Kona website, so I'm wondering if that's the newest version or not.

The light in the picture isn't the greatest. Its a little less gaudy than the Kona website pic, IMHO. More green than yellow. But then again, I think I'm slightly colourblind.

'O4 should be out in October. Not sure about the details, but supposedly there will be options for frame-disc and fork discs. Not sure if there will be 2 frames (disc and sans disc) or 2 options on the same frame. D.

Nice Jake, Duncann! I've been seriously considering the Jake as well but have never seen the 2003 paint in person. The Kona web site does no justice to that bike photographically. Can you post more photos to get a better idea of what it actually looks like? Great choice for a cross bike, and have fun with it! -Grease

I got a 2003 jake from Arizona Bicycle Experts in Tucson, AZ. I was going to go with a Surly, I really didn't like the green/yellow that much. They called Kona and got a red/blue one like their cross team, the same as the Kula deluxe. I mainly use it to commute a little, and a few errands, I'll check out the "cross" series here in Tucson in the fall.
