Tektro 917A Mini-Vbrake questions...Auriaprottu
May 14, 2003 11:00 PM
I went to the Tektro site for info on this brake (I'm interested in a V-brake that does not require Travel Agents to work with road levers). The Tektro site says it may not work with all rim/tire/canti boss combinations. I need to know if it works with a 28-30mm tire, and normal 700c canti bosses. Does anyone have experience with these brakes? Thanks in advance.

It depends on where your canti bosses are located within the range of adjustability.I tried one using Campy ergo'a and I ultimately took it off.The lever really didn't pull enough cable and the mud clearance at the top of the tire was too close(the cross cable at the top was too close).I had to set the pads VERY close to the rim.

However,I must say they had great braking force.I have one I'll send you to try if you are interested.

Yup they work OK. I was using a 36c tire and had some clearance. The tektro V's are easier to work with then canti and the stopping power is pretty good. But as dan mentions the mud clearance could be better. Also theyre kinda a bltch to release
