With a 135 spacing in the rear, should I build a wheel around an XTR hub as opposed to say, Ultegra? Will everything be cool as far as chain line if I'm using an Ultegra crank?

My current thinking is: 8 speed bar end shifters, 39/48(TA) Ultegra 9 speed crank, 9 speed chain, XTR rear hub, XTR 8 speed cassette. What do you think - will it work?

132.5mm. Halfway between the road and mountain spacing. It's supposed to be able to work with both but I've heard of people having trouble with road hubs slipping in the frame. I've got a CC and built a rear wheel with an LX huab and have had zero trouble with hub slippage, chain line or anything else for that matter. FWIW, I had a 105 road crank on it for a year before switching to an old Shimano Deore DX mountain crank with 36/48 tooth rings that I'm running now. Chain line has been fine. I'd go with a mountain rear hub.
