At cyclocrossworld.com they offer cranksets with your choice of a 46 or 48 for the big ring, and a 38 or 39 for the small. The rear cassette they offer with the kit is a 12x27 9-speed. I have never had a CX bike, how do I know which front rings I should get? I am in MI, and am new to CX biking.

is it relatively flat where you will ride? do you plan to race? most pros use a 48x38 with a 12x27 or a 42 single in front. as long as you don't plan to do massive road miles I'd say go 46x38 as it is rare in most races to need a 48/12 ratio.
agree, or a 42 single ring w/12-27 rearweiwentg

like he said, it depends on the terrain, but a 42 single with a 12-27 or MTB rear will get you through most races. of course, if you're not racing, all that just went out the window.

I plan to try and race. I think I will go with the two rings so I get more use out of the bike then just CX racing.

Scwab Cycles offers the TA Syrius in a 34/48.(1.800.343.5347) This is the bees knees in cx cranks, run about 200. You can also (like I said) run MTB cranks. XTR for example in 48/36 or 46/34. both will be fine and MTB cranks will handle more abuse.
